Organics Training Level !:
 The Fundamentals of Organic Agriculture

30 hour 10-week Certified course:  
       one evening per week plus 3 field trips to local organic farms. 
Class locaton: tba
Date/Time: starting in September

Pre-registration is open

Fee:   DOAM Members EC$50; Non-members EC$80 (Includes 1 year DOAM membership)  Reduced fees for Dominica State College Students.

Course Outline:
organic principles and development, record keeping
tropical soil fertility and cultivation plant nutrition,
manures, composting and composting teas
pest management, companion planting , weed control
biodiversity management , seeds, seedlings, propagation
conversion to, marketing and economic performance of organics

Interactive sessions, learn and share, get acquainted with organic practices

Organic Input and Composting 
Techniques 


Workshops starting in September

Location:   Various locations on island
Learn the fundamentals of composting:  why compost, biology and chemistry, materials and methods, benefits and uses.  

Fee:  to be announced  REduced fee for members.

Organic Farm Records, Plans and Management 

12 hour course- 4 sessions
To be held in October. 
Location:  Roseau

The Organic labeling of products requires special handling and record keeping.   This workshop is an excellent opportunity for the organic farmer and farmers wishing to transition to organics to learn how to develop a comprehensive farn plan  that lets you organize, review and utilize your records and qualify towards organic certification.

Fee:  Reduced fee for members

If you are interested in having this course brought to a location near you, let us know! A second location, time and date can be decided.   Location will be based upon interest.

Plant Propagation: Grafting, Layering and Budding

One-day workshop: 

Learn the techniques of grafting, air and ground layering and budding.   Plants raised by propagation will come to flowering and fruiting much earlier than the one obtained from seed.   

Day: Saturday or Sunday
Dates and locations are dependent on your preregistration interest. Email or call DOAM to let us know, if you would like this workshop held in your village/community.   

Fee: DOAM Members EC$20; Non-members EC$50 (includes 1 year DOAM membership)

 Plant Identification 

One-day workshop: 

Learn how to identify plants by using common characteristics to group plants into families.  Develop a discerning eye, learn how to reference a number of good field guides, plant keys, and on-line sources.  Take a walk with someone who knows plants.   

Day: Saturday or Sunday

Capacity Building and Management 
Web Site Design and Maintenance
Grant Proposal Writing and Fundraising

An important set of workshops for NGO's whose mission includes public education in support of  environmental consciousness, health and social responsibility.  DOAM is committed to supporting sustainable resource practices and management.  

DOAM seeks to facilitate the strengthening of this NGO sector and invites interested NGO board members to join us in a set of workshops designed to strengthen and build individual organizational and board capacity.

Workshops will address roles and responsibilities of board members, recruiting new board members, fiscal planning, accounting and auditing systems, and programme administration.   

NGO workshop participants will learn where and how to seek funds and have the opportunity to work together to create individual grant proposals in support of individual and collaborative efforts.  

Participants will also have the opportunity to learn skills to upgrade or create a website for their organization and link with it with others.

If your NGO is committed  to growing, improving services, and working collaboratively with other NGO's, contact DOAM now.
