What is DOAM?
The Dominica Organic Agriculture Movement (DOAM) is a non-profit, non-governmental organization that is registered in Dominica as a limited liability company.    DOAM was formed in January, 2006  by a cross section of primary stakeholders who are producers and traders in the organic food production industry   and is governed by a Board of Directors.   Any person, institution, or firm committed to the vision of developing a sustainable organic industry is eligible for membership.

DOAM seeks to coordinate programs and activities for the holistic development of the local organic industry and assist various organic oriented organizations related to the sustainable development of the Industry in
Dominica.

One of the primary aims of DOAM INC. is to establish a set of high quality standards to guide its members on the practices and procedures of Organic production that meet International criteria of the Organic Certification process.

Mission includes:

  • To produce, promote and facilitate the production of organic agricultural commodities of optimum quality and quantity employing principles, methods and practices which protect and enhance the farm environment with particular regard to co-existing rather than dominating natural systems.
  • To establish with all relevant national authorities and in the public mind the recognition that organic productions provides an excellent opportunity for a sustainable agricultural diversification.
  • To promote the development of a sustainable organic industry whereby the use of local natural resources is made safe and cost effective.

Goals include:

  • Excellence in the dissemination of carefully analyzed information among members and throughout the various farming catchment zones on traditional, current and new developments in organic production, processing and marketing.
  • Development and strengthening formal and informal networks for exchange/dissemination of information.
  • Strengthening institutional support for three (3) primary levels of activity: production, processing, and marketing of Dominican Organic products.
  • Supporting and or initiating relevant research activities.
